An interacting community.
WhereGroup uses open source software and open data in its projects. Therefore, the company is part of a globally active community that promotes the individual components of a wide variety of software. Outstanding communities are the OSGeo (Open Source Geospatial Foundation) a globally active foundation, the FOSSGIS e. V. and the OpenStreetMap community. There also exists networking between developers and users, exchange via mailing lists, community meetings, hacking events and conferences. This network brings security and mutual know-how and ensures the global distribution of open source software.
The OSGeo promotes and supports the development and use of open source software in the processing of spatial data . WhereGroup supports OSGeo through a variety of activities, including the development of the Mapbender software, provision of documentation and presentations, training material and financial support of the annual FOSSGIS conference. In addition, WhereGroup is a Bronze sponsor of the OSGeo.
The goal of the FOSSGIS e. V. is the promotion and distribution of free Geographic Information Systems (GIS) which, strictly speaking, is free software and free geodata. It represents the OSGeo as a local branch in the German-speaking areas. WhereGroup is a member of FOSSGIS e. V. and supports the association in its activities, e.g. at trade fairs and workshops, conference organisations and community events.
The OSM community is an association for the collection of geodata. Collected on a voluntary basis, the data is published on the OpenStreetMap platform so that geodata and digital maps can be made available to everyone. It is for this reason that supporting OSM is of particular importance.

Moreover, WhereGroup is an active sustaining member that promotes the QGIS developers in their work.
Operating on a supra-regional level, the InGeoForum has set itself the goal of pooling together the existing potential of geodata and then structuring it in such a way that it can be made available to users and decision-makers involved in both business and politics.
